The fascinating life of Pierre Berge came to a close on September 8 with his death in France. He was 86.
Berge was a colorful, controversial figure in business, fashion, art and politics, most widely known for his long-time relationships with Laurent, his tempestuous career as the czar of Paris Opera, and his personal relationship with artist Bernard Buffet.
In September and October, Berge’s Fondation Pierre Bergé-Yves Saint Laurent, will open two museums dedicated to the work of Laurent, the Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris and the Musée Yves Saint Laurent Marrakesh. The Paris museum is located in the former studio of Laurent, while the Marrakesh museum, pictured below, is on the grounds of the Berge / Laurent home in that city.
An overview of the multi-dimensional life of Pierre Berge is in the New York Times obituary, here.
